This Freehouse has a well deserved local reputation for good food in congenial surroundings. We ate here in May 2012 and the dishes on the specials menu included steak and ale pie and chicken curry. The round pie was very generous and served with a huge amount of mashed potato. There was even a separate bowl of fresh chopped cabbage and carrots. My cod in beer batter and chips was excellent though not up to that of Silks on the Downs. Mushy peas made it a traditional meal. The pub is renowned for its deserts at a reasonable price. The pub serves Ramsbury Ale and beer from the Pewsey brewery. There pub has a lot of character, beams, agricultural implements, toby jugs and an open fire. outside there are seats in a pretty, if small, garden. Good for families and secret assignations...
