Tuesday, will see a very active weather system sweeping in across Southwest England from the Atlantic. This weather system will produce plenty of snow across Devon & Cornwall during Tuesday and Tuesday night, and potentially also parts of Avon & Somerset and Dorset too - up to 30cm (1ft) of snow is possible for the higher ground, although a strengthening wind will give drifting. However for coastal Dorset and the southern coast of Devon a mix of snow, sleet and rain is more likely. Also during Tuesday night milder air will feed in across Cornwall, bringing more in the way of rain to this county.
There will be a gradual improvement on Wednesday, with snow changing into sleet and latterly rain.
Slightly milder temperatures will begin on Thursday and continue until the weekend. Frosts will continue overnight, and early morning driving may be problematical.
Salt stocks within this county are adequate, and main arterial routes are clear. Hard shoulders on the M4 are not being gritted, and particular care should be taken, particularly following overnight frosts.
Emergency responders have adequate numbers of response vehicles and fuel, and there have been no reported incidents of emergency service providers being unable to respond to calls for help.
Even though the weather conditions may improve slightly after Wednesday of this week, this is an opportune reminder for everyone to be conscious of elderly and vulnerable neighbours, and to please make sure they have sufficient food and hot drinks, are keeping warm, and are not in need of medical help.
