(Report by BGF Baydon)
The Red Lion Pub was full to overflowing at lunchtime on Saturday July 11th as villagers came to wish their postman Bob Grice farewell and happy retirement.
Bob had been delivering letters to Baydon since 1987 on a rotation basis, but became the regular postie in 2004.
Mrs Dorothy Newman, representing the residents, thanked Bob for his loyal and cheerful service and wished him a long, happy and healthy retirement. That he would be missed was evident by the tears that were shed by many in the crowd.
Mr Grice was presented with a book of signatures, gifts of money and a bouquet of flowers for his wife, by youngsters Rosie and Lottie Walker.

Good News! Bob's replacement is going down a storm with the residents of Baydon, he is very friendly, helpful and takes time to make sure everyone feels they are receiving the service they have become been used to over the years. Congratulations Royal Mail on producing another fine rural Postie, I agree with ChadPowers007 that this is most certainly not the experience of millions of other people living in more urban areas and it really does make all the difference.

ReportI hope the Royal Mail have plenty more Bobs around the UK, I think he was just the kind of friendly and familiar face a lot of people would have looked forward to seeing everyday, especially those who may have felt a little isolated. I heard Bob was treated like a King on his testemonial week visiting the villages he has served for so many years and I'm sure he will never forget it. What a great end to a great career.
You'll be missed Posty Bob!

ReportNo wonder the people of Baydon were sad to see Bob go. I lived in London for years and had a different postman every week, sometimes every day! Sounds like Bob had become a much loved member of the community.
