LET’S TRY TO GET FASTER BROADBAND FOR MARLBOROUGH!

There’s a chance of getting faster broadband for Marlborough if we all just take a few seconds out of our day.

In the past there have been discussions on Marlborough People about how badly we are in need of faster broadband.

Nigel Norman, MD of Marlborough based Sarsen Technology summed up the feelings of many when he said,

“We have staff that commute to Marlborough from Swindon and they have much faster broadband connections at home than they do in the office. I don’t want to relocate our business to Swindon but access to fast communications is key to our growth.”

BT is rolling out superfast fibre optic broadband across the UK over the next five years. The Marlborough area is not on the announced roll out plan. However it’s worth us all taking a few seconds out of our day to cast a vote to fast track the Marlborough area to get BT Infinity next.

In The Race to Infinity the five areas in the country with the largest percentage of votes by December 31st 2010 will win the chance to bring superfast broadband to their area. So the fact that Marlborough is not a huge town shouldn’t ruin our chances as this is done by the percentage of homes/ premises, not the number.

BT will also donate £5,000 of computer equipment to a local community project in the five winning towns.

Marlborough Town Councillor Rich Pitts said today,

“The internet is vital for rural communities and the faster the better, everyone in Marlborough should go and click on this site.”
