A group of St. John’s students travelled to Bristol Academy to compete in the South West Zonal Schools Trampoline Competition on Sunday, December 5th.

The competition attracted 329 students from all over the South West area and this year St. John’s was represented by seven students from Years 7-10.

Each entrant performed a compulsory 10 bounce routine followed by a voluntary routine of their choice. This included somersaulting and twisting moves which were marked for difficulty and overall aesthetic performance.

14-year-old Ffion Barry achieved the highest placing, coming 4th in the Under 15 Novice Girls category, just missing a place in the National competition. Other notable successes came from Kirsty Brown, 14 and Claire Slater, 13 who were 6th & 7th in the Under 15 Elite Girls competition. Unfortunately the only male competitor from St John’s, 11-year-old Ethan Lovell-Clelford, was ill on the day of the competition and unable to take part.

Trampolining is an activity which helps assist the development of co-ordination, balance and movement through the progressive trampoline skills which can be enjoyed by all ages. It is also a competitive Olympic sport.

St. John’s is currently fundraising for its outdoor sports facilities. Anyone wishing to help can download the appeal leaflet from the Supporting St. John’s page on the St. John’s website or contact Kate Hunter on 01672 519575 or khunter@stjohns.wilts.sch.uk
