Local businessman Martin Houlden is Marlborough’s newest Town Councillor having been voted in with 606 votes to the Liberal Democrats 323, with 11 spoiled votes.

Martin stood as the Conservative candidate in yesterday's by-election, but like most people he feels that the Town Council shouldn’t be about politics, but about getting things done.

There was a 29% turnout, which is higher than usual for a by-election in August.

Thanks to everyone involved - a great team effort and a great result

I'm really pleased with the verdict delivered by the people of Marlborough West Ward - a huge vote of encouragement for new, younger councillors who want to get involved and get things moving!
