January is Cervical Cancer Awareness month. If you have any questions about this or any other health issue you can talk to health care professionals at Marlborough Library on Wednesday mornings throughout January.

In the UK, around 2,800 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer each year. It can affect women of all ages but is more likely in women between 30 – 45 years of age. It is the second most common cancer in young women after breast cancer. However prevention and early diagnosis can save lives. Cervical screening – previously known as a smear test - can prevent cervical cancer and saves thousands of lives each year. The earlier cervical cancer is diagnosed, the better the outcome will be. Cancer of the cervix can be treated with surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy or a combination of these treatments.

Throughout January, on Wednesday mornings between 9.30am and 12.30pm, you can come in to Marlborough Library and see a health care professional to get free advice. If you have any other health concerns either for yourself, a friend or a relative, please just drop in and chat to them - they will be happy to try to answer any health questions you may have. You can also help yourself to useful leaflets and take a look at the library books in the Health Matters section.

Does it matter people?! I've had Cervical Cancer and I couldn't care less if this story has a typo in the headline- in fact I wouldn't have noticed. It's just great that someone was bringing attention to the fact that help and advice was available to people in Marlborough.
