National Road Safety Week will be marked in Marlborough this year with a Safe Drive Stay Alive roadshow for the town’s students.

On Thursday 25 November at Marlborough College there will be shows for students from St. John's, Marlborough College and also St. Mary's School, Calne.

Each roadshow combines dramatic video footage with deeply personal stories from emergency services personnel, bereaved parents and victims of road traffic collisions.

Ian Hopkins, road safety development manager with Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service, said:

Mr Hopkins said: "The schools presentations are part of our annual programme, and we have already spoken to hundreds of students from across Swindon and Wiltshire, the message is very relevant and we know that it does have a real impact."

He added: "Statistics show that young, newly qualified drivers are at risk on the roads. It's not easy for the people who speak at our presentations to share their stories, but they do it because they don't want anyone else to suffer the pain and grief that they have experienced."

The Safe Drive partnership is led and primarily co-ordinated by Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service, and is well supported by other major partners, including Wiltshire Police, Great Western Ambulance Service, SWIFT Medics, Wiltshire Council, Swindon Borough Council, Roadpeace and road safety charity Brake.
