The Hills Group Limited, a family owned Marlborough business, celebrates its 110th birthday this year. Coinciding with this special anniversary, one of their developments has won the Local Authority Building Control (LABC) West of England Building Excellence Awards. Hills’ exclusive development “The Old Dairy” won  the 'Best small housing development' category, and will now go through to the National Finals to be held in London on Tuesday 2nd November.

The group’s operations cover Wiltshire and neighbouring counties.  Their diverse activities include building quality homes, producing and supplying quarry products and managing and recycling both domestic and commercial waste.  Over recent years, the Hills Homes brand has established a strong reputation for high quality homes on carefully selected sites - from major developments in large towns to smaller ones in rural towns and villages, such as the above mentioned “The Old Dairy” in Upper Castle Combe.

Inspired by the idyllic, picturesque setting of the nearby village of Castle Combe, where strict rules apply to preserve the character of the village,  the development improved the existing adjacent listed Grade II* property whilst maintaining the rural theme of the local environment.  The process used traditional building skills and craftsmanship in harmony with the most up to date green technology including rainwater harvesting and solar thermal water heating systems.

The LABC West of England Building Excellence Awards recognise the best quality, design, construction and project management across every class of building from domestic extensions to social housing, from apartments to schools and hospitals.

Nick King, Group Director of Hills Property Ltd said, "Winning this award is especially important to us as it recognises not only our approach to developing quality homes which sit naturally in their environment but also to the talented team of people who brought this development together, from design through to completion utilising traditional skills combined with the most up to date environmental technology."
