BBC Weatherman Richard Angwin will be opening the Blue Cross shop in Marlborough at 11.30am on Saturday.
Come and enjoy a drink and a slice of cake as you browse for bargains, chat to staff and volunteers to find out more about The Blue Cross’s work helping sick and homeless animals across the UK. Richard will cut the ribbon at 11.30am and there will also be the opportunity for children to have their face painted and meet the charity’s giant mascot, Barney the dog. Well behaved dogs on leads are welcome in the shop.
Blue Cross shop manager in Marlborough, Sharon Hunting, said: “We would love to see lots of people at our official opening celebration. We are so grateful to Richard for taking the time out to join us and hope it won’t be raining ‘cats and dogs’ on the day. It’s also the perfect time to have a clearout at home so bring your unwanted items in to us. All the money we raise in the shop goes towards the care of poorly and homeless pets.”
The Blue Cross receives no government funding, so relies on public donations to continue its vital work. All donations of saleable clothes, books and bric-a-brac are gratefully received.
Sharon would also like to encourage local businesses to help. She explains: “We need a lot of stock to keep the shop going and would like to encourage local companies to get involved. If they ask their employees to bring in at least one quality item each on a given day, The Blue Cross would be happy to collect the donations. Just £20 will help keep an animal comfortable and safe while we find it a loving new home, so every little helps.”
Any animal lovers with time to spare who are interested in joining the shop’s team of volunteers should pop into the shop at 120 High Street to find out more, or call manager Sharon for a chat on 01672 516358.
