A new charity walk called Avebury Rocks takes place on Saturday July 9th around Avebury.

Guitarist and singer Nick Harper and Mike Peters, lead singer with Alarm, who suffers from leukaemia, are going to perform en route with soldiers from the Territorial Army who will carry their equipment around the 20-mile cross-country course. Numbers will restricted to 500 walkers who automatically receive a concert ticket. A further 300 tickets will be available for the concert only, which will end the day on the Avebury village sports field.
The walk is being organised by Marlborough and Swindon Rotary Clubs and all proceeds will go to the Prospect Hospice at Wroughton.
Nick Harper, who appears regularly at events in Marlborough including the annual International Jazz Festival, supports the Prospect Hospice because his late mother Monica Weston, who was head teacher at St Peter’s Junior School in Marlborough, spent her last days there with cancer.
Rotarian David Uttley, a past president of the Marlborough club, who is chairman of the organising committee, said: “I am delighted to be involved in the organisation of this event because it is something different that everyone can be involved in and it has brought a variety of groups together working for a common cause.”
He said the rotary clubs of Marlborough and Swindon (Thamesdown) and the Love Hope Strength Foundation aimed to raise thousands of pounds for Prospect Hospice from Avebury Rocks, which will
