Remembrance Services in the Marlborough area.
Marlborough
There will be a parade to the War Memorial (the one by the roundabout near St. Peters School) for 10.55am followed by the HMS Marlborough bell, Exhortation, Last Post, Reveille & wreath laying; the parade will then continue to St. Mary’s for the Remembrance Service.
The Remembrance Service at St. Mary's church will start at approximately 11.15am
At 5.30 the same evening there will be an informal Remembrance Day Service at St. Mary’s including
songs, acts of remembrance & prayers of peace. This service, suitable for children and people of all ages, is an opportunity to give thanks for those who fought for our freedoms and to pray for peace in our world.
Ramsbury
Meet at 10.30 at the tree. The parade will march down the High Street to the memorial. There will be refreshments at Ramsbury Legion Club afterwards. Everyone welcome.
Preshute
St. George’s Church in Preshute will hold a Parish Communion service at 10.00am, followed at 11.00am by a Service of Remembrance at the War Memorial in the churchyard. (NB There will be no Matins on this Sunday).
Mildenhall

I have always wondered how Marlborough came to have two War Memorials, an Obelisk of Rememberance at the junction of Salisbury Road and London Road with a Wall of Remberance at the junction of London Road and New Road,
Which was the first and why was a second necessary?
This leads to the puzzle of how equal deference can be paid to each by the dignataries and representative of the Town of Marlborough.
