I had a experience today the likes of which I've never come across in all my 71 years.
I was enjoying a pint in The Lamb, Marlborough when an elderly trio, two men and a woman, I would not call gentleman and lady, approached the bar. The woman took a Poppy from RBL tray and handed it to one of the men. I politely pointed out the collecting tin and the woman replied that they had paid for Poppies at another establishment and the man had lost his on the way there. I was flabbergasted at the woman's uncharitable false logic and put money in for that poppy.
Presumably the woman felt that if she bought a hat in one shop and lost it she could pick up another at the next milliners and not pay for it.
