Pewsey's new library will be officially opened by Wiltshire Council's leader Jane Scott.

The opening, which will take place at 2pm on Friday (December 17), will be a community event and members of the public are invited to come along and join in the celebration. Verity Sharp and the Pewsey Crown Musicians will be performing at 4pm to make the afternoon go with a swing.

John Thomson, Cabinet member for libraries, said: “I hope local people will come along and help us celebrate the opening of this fantastic new facility. The new library will be more spacious, light and open. It will have 3,000 more books on the shelves, with a wide range of titles to appeal to all age groups, many of which were suggested by Pewsey residents.”

The library will also offer free internet access and it will be the first library in Wiltshire to include a personal care room. This will provide washing and changing facilities for adults and children with severe disabilities. It will also have a meeting room to enable council staff to meet with people locally in Pewsey.

A temporary service has been provided from a mobile library since the old library was closed in April. When it opens, the library will have longer opening hours and will be open five days a week including Saturday morning and until 8pm on Tuesdays.
