Wiltshire Police are warning motorists to take extra care on the roads across the county after receiving twelve reports of black ice.

Between 4:51am and 8:30am this morning police were informed of black ice across roads.

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: "A number of minor injuries were reported as cars slid on the ice. Fortunately no one is believed to have been seriously hurt."

How to keep safe on the roads during the winter months

•    Make sure you have full visibility while inside a vehicle

•    Use headlights even in the daytime to ensure you are seen

•    Keep informed with the latest weather updates and road conditions

•    Keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front as it takes twice a long for a car to stop on icy roads

•    Only brake when necessary by gently pumping the brakes to avoid wheel spinning

•    Make sure your mobile phone has enough battery in case you become stranded or need assistance

•    Carry extra clothing to keep warm and keep a torch in your car

Various incidents across Wiltshire involved black ice including a four vehicle traffic collision at 8:28am this morning which resulted in two people suffering injuries along New Road, Forest Lane, Lacock near Chippenham.

"We encourage drivers to check the local weather forecast and to try, where possible, to avoid country lanes which can be particularly hazardous in icy conditions," a Wiltshire Police spokesperson added.
