Wiltshire Council is delivering 135,000 blue lidded bins to homes across west, north and east Wiltshire to allow residents to recycle plastic bottles and cardboard.
Linda Conley, portfolio holder for waste said: "The new plastic bottle and cardboard recycling service has got off to a good start. In the first month over 700 tonnes of plastic bottles and cardboard have been collected from households across Wiltshire and diverted from landfill.
"The new blue lidded bins will make it much easier for people to recycle all their extra cardboard packaging and fizzy drinks bottles. We are expecting to divert record amounts of plastic bottles and cardboard from landfill over the Christmas period."
People can also take any extra recycling to one of eleven household recycling centres across Wiltshire.
All household recycling centres will be open between Christmas and New Year. They will close at 1pm on Christmas Eve and be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day. They will be open from 9am to 4pm (6pm in Salisbury) and Monday to Sunday at all other times.
Throughout January only, households that currently receive a garden waste collection can leave their Christmas tree beside their bin for collection on their normal scheduled garden waste collection day.
Cllr Conley added "There will be minimal disruption to waste and recycling collections over the holiday period. Our bin crews won't be working on Boxing Day but will be working on Saturday December 31 to catch up and on Monday January 2 so there won't be any disruption to services over New Year."
There will be no collections of service, household waste, black box, garden waste, plastic bottles or cardboard on Christmas Day or Boxing Day. Please check online at www.wiltshire.gov.uk to see how this affects your collections.
