Wiltshire Police has announced it will no longer be accepting applications for new police officers after thousands expressed their interest within the first day.
The force reported that the online application process saw 283,820 hits on the Wiltshire Police website.
The online application was launched yesterday (Wednesday, 23, January 2013) at 4pm for people to make applications.
Wiltshire Police are the first force in the south west to recruit new officers since October 2010 following the Government Spending Review.
Speaking about the application process, Police and Crime Commissioner for Wiltshire, Angus Macpherson said: "I am very pleased that the constabulary is starting the process to recruit new police officers. I have said that having frontline officers out on the beat within our local communities is very important to me and recruiting new officers will ensure we continue to do just that."
A statement released by Wiltshire Police said: "Applications will be monitored once the pre-assessment tool goes live and will be closed once required levels of interest have been met."
Successful applicants will join the force between the end of 2013 and the beginning of 2014.
